Sleigh Bells: “Comeback Kid”
from http://bobetbagundang.com/2012/01/17/sleigh-bells-comeback-kid/
2010 Hypemachine speakerblasters Sleigh Bells (made up of Derek of hardcore band Poison the Well and Alexis Krauss of bubblepop group Rubyblue) previewed their second effort Reign of Terror by releasing “Born To Lose” last December. Loud and quick, that track was not enough to make the follow-up for Treats something to look forward to. My dissatisfaction with ”Born To Lose” was just mumed with the release of their official first single “Comeback Kid.” Shooting off with lightning blows, the boisterous track is deliciously Sleigh Bells with the trademark slithering guitars and pounding drums, though weaker compared to tracks in Treats. Like “Riot Rhythm” and “Run the Heart,” Alexis tries to rise above the sonics that overflow to the brim, her voice less aggressive, leaning to be R&B-ish so the lyrics are more audible, “you go away but you’ll come back someday” she sings in the chorus.

Incendiary: “In Your Nature” by Zola Jesus
from http://bobetbagundang.com/2011/11/04/incendiary-in-your-nature-by-zola-jesus/
“If it’s in your nature, you’ll never win,” threatens Nika Roza Danilova.
Zola Jesus’s return hinted a year-long visibility for the goth-sketched singer, starting with “Vessels” and the best guest vocals of the year in M83’s Intro. And of course because of Conatus— a Latin word that describes a creation’s continued pursuit to strive, to fully realize its purpose and eventually its demise. In her latest record, most of the tracks are intended for serious gestation, hidden for immediate accessibility and pleading for time and reflection. It does not help that Zola Jesus thunders in her rounded, throaty vocals cloaking the lyrics of the songs. One stand out and can be considered as Conatus’s tower is “In Your Nature,” a fatalistic look at a person’s inability to adapt change that spells doom to another person’s Moira and later himself.
Zola Jesus employs the same elements like wallowing percussion and militant drumming similar to her earlier track “Poor Animal.” While the latter fractures emotional disparity, “In Your Nature” exposes the character’s confession dependency to the other, forewarning“the end becomes us again” and sounding remorseful that they “never let it in,” as strings deepen the statements, sounding more affluent than in any other songs in the record. It is easy to pick up on the intensity of what Zola Jesus wants her audience to make out of ”In Your Nature,” especially after it comes from another track in Conatus that speaks almost in the same truth. But it is in this track that Zola Jesus gets the effect she goes for, an upbeat, pulsing background to a fallen ode to human nature, a celebration to her defeat and the acceptance of it. And is it not right, don’t we give up to most things we cannot change? Lest we burn our hand holding steadily too close to the fire.

Sigur Rós Hoppípolla in Cameron Crowe’s “We Bought A Zoo” (Trailer)
from http://bobetbagundang.com/2011/09/15/sigur-ros-hoppipolla-in-cameron-crowes-we-bought-a-zoo-trailer-2/
Benjamin Mee’s We Bought a Zoo: The Amazing True Story of a Young Family, a Broken Down Zoo, and the 200 Animals That Changed Their Lives Forever is adapted to the screen by director Cameron Crowe (with a shorter title, of course) with the help of The Devil Wears Prada screenplay writer Aline Brosh McKenna. In the thriftier We Bought A Zoo, Matt Damon plays the widower Benjamin Mee who took a leap of fate by moving his family to a French barnhouse which turned out to be the Dartmoor Zoological Park. His recollections of zoo-keeping duties, holding the his family intact and recovering from the death of his wife to glioblastoma are made quirkier through Mee’s clever humor and touching insights.
We Brought A Zoo trailer features the documentary-film-about-animals favorite “Hoppípolla” by the Icelandic group Sigur Rós. Jónsi and the gang are also hired by Mr. Crowe to do the musical scoring for the film. We Brought a Zoo will hit the theaters December 23rd.
